ENSURING PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Returned police bike patrols to the Westside and Eastside neighborhoods
  • Organized a panel on disaster preparedness
  • Helped reduce the Department of Agriculture’s potential use of toxic pesticides and ensure better neighborhood notification
  • Co-Chaired 10-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness
  • Allocated new funding towards youth programs including:
    • Teen Apprenticeship program
    • Increased after school programs
    • All-Day Summer drop-in programs at schools & Ortega Park
  • Increased staffing level at Lower Westside Community Center for neighborhood youth programs and services

FIGHTING TRAFFIC CONGESTION

  • Funded enhanced bus transit,resulting in a 8% increase in ridership
  • Co-sponsored the first City of Santa Bartbara Forum on Commuter Rail, attended by over 150 regional leaders and commuter rail advocates

OUR ENVIRONMENT AND NEIGHBORHOODS

  • Provided funding for the City’s Integrated Pest Management program that keeps our parks green and toxic free
  • Helped lead Council’s Sustainability Subcommittee
  • Assisted School District in increasing its recycling program
  • Successfully urged the Coastal Commission to restore Lower Mission Creek, add new pocket parks and re-establish native plants
  • Revised the Neighborhood Preservation Ordinance to stop the McMansionization of middle class neighborhoods
