Accomplishments
ENSURING PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY
- Returned police bike patrols to the Westside and Eastside neighborhoods
- Organized a panel on disaster preparedness
- Helped reduce the Department of Agriculture’s potential use of toxic pesticides and ensure better neighborhood notification
- Co-Chaired 10-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness
- Allocated new funding towards youth programs including:
- Teen Apprenticeship program
- Increased after school programs
- All-Day Summer drop-in programs at schools & Ortega Park
- Increased staffing level at Lower Westside Community Center for neighborhood youth programs and services
BALANCED CITY BUDGET
FIGHTING TRAFFIC CONGESTION
- Funded enhanced bus transit,resulting in a 8% increase in ridership
- Co-sponsored the first City of Santa Bartbara Forum on Commuter Rail, attended by over 150 regional leaders and commuter rail advocates
OUR ENVIRONMENT AND NEIGHBORHOODS
- Provided funding for the City’s Integrated Pest Management program that keeps our parks green and toxic free
- Helped lead Council’s Sustainability Subcommittee
- Assisted School District in increasing its recycling program
- Successfully urged the Coastal Commission to restore Lower Mission Creek, add new pocket parks and re-establish native plants
- Revised the Neighborhood Preservation Ordinance to stop the McMansionization of middle class neighborhoods
